Being American Is a Birthright
Meeting the Moment with Anat Shenker-Osorio

This week’s “Next Comes What” focuses on the work and ideas of Anat Shenker-Osorio. A cognitive linguist, Shenker-Osorio has made a career of seeing what kinds of messaging help persuade the public to support progressive issues and candidates. Host Andrea Pitzer talks to her about the tactics activists used to win abortion rights in Argentina, and how a series of campaigns in Australia helped free people seeking asylum who were held offshore in concentration camps for years. They discuss why embracing hateful views in the name of convincing “moderates” is a dead-end strategy, because moderates—at least in the way they’re trotted out for these debates—don’t really exist.

This week in our second episode leading to the AI Doc, we are joined by Anat Shenker-Osorio, a progressive campaign strategist who hosts the Words To Win By podcast. Anat tries to focus on the positives: if you don’t think people should join the AI party, throw a better party. She gives us some quick lessons on messaging: how to paint tech CEOs as actual villains, how to flip the script and convince AI men that actually, it’s okay to die — and how to avoid what Anat refers to as ‘Mar-a-lago face’.

Anat shares with John Carlos Frey how to communicate an effective strategy for immigrant rights against what she calls is an authoritarian regime and also shares about a new growing coalition of immigrant rights advocates called Brave of US.

Nicole and Sasheer are thrilled to welcome a special guest, political strategist and host of the Words to Win By podcast, Anat Shenker-Osorio! Our trio gets into the current political climate, the background behind different messaging strategies we’ve seen recently, and how we can help each other as friends and a community during difficult times.

The current reality of pedo-rings, state murders, and Epstein’s sperm bank of Nobel laureates scrubs eyes feels pretty far away from the “politics of joy” Kamala used to peddle. But a couple of leaks from the otherwise-shelved DNC autopsy of why Harris lost is revealing it did have a lot to do with Gaza. Francesca unpacks what we do know with political communications strategist Anat Shenker-Osorio.
